This week starts off with meeting the master distiller of Seekers Spirits, Cambodia’s own artisan gin, at Elephant Bar in Raffles Hotel Le Royal. The event takes place on Thursday the 25th, from 18:30 onwards. If you haven’t heard of Seekers Spirits gin, it is no surprise, as the gin was only released a few months ago. There’s also a lucky draw, and every drink purchased earns you a ticket which can win you either a bottle of gin or a tour of the distillery!
If you are interested in the process of distilling and want to meet the master distiller, check out the event page.
On Friday, you’ll instead have the opportunity to join the Indie Rock frenzy at Oscar’s on the Corner, that is the Indierawk Fest Vol 1, with bands like Oh! Dirty Fingers from China and Cambodian glam rockers Khmeng Somre. You’ll also find the band Checkered Past, a new ska band from Phnom Penh, who are playing their first show.
2$ entry to the event and you can find the event page here.
On Saturday there is the CSP Mothership event that pays tribute to the late Kak Channty from Cambodian Space Project, that sadly passed away previously this year. During the evening, Cambodian Space Project members will perform music with a new line-up.
The event page says it best, “While being widely loved for reviving Cambodian rock’n’soul music throughout the world, Kak Channthy stood for more than just music. Her songs and her story represented freedom for poor and oppressed people throughout the world, social equality, human rights, and justice.”
Head over to the new venue LF Social Club if you want to pay respect to this legendary Khmer musician.
